Happy Thanksgiving!

Our Thanksgiving was a fun and busy day. We started early by delivering meals with our church. Their "Families Loving Families" program is a big deal every year. I was glad that Raymond said we should do it and I was glad that both of his sisters went with us. When you arrive you draw a number and wait for the meals you deliver to be put together.

The waiting was probably longer than it took us to deliver but we learned a lot through our mini Oklahoma history lesson. :) We loaded up the boxes and delivered both to the same complex.

Only one family was home. They seemed so grateful to receive the meal. We didn't talk long, as we had just woken them up. It is always so humbling to go into homes so different than my own. After our delivery we were treated to a fabulous breakfast cooked by Raymond's dad. Then off to our house to cook/bake for later on.

For Thanksgiving dinner, we headed to Raymond's aunt and uncles house. We had a good time hanging out, watching football, and being entertained by this cute little one!

Sweet brother and sister.

We left and then went to Ray's parents house to play a game of dominos which I won! What a great day of family!

Land of the Pilgrim's Pride

This line from "My Country Tis of Thee" went through my head much of Tuesday as I embarrassingly dressed as a Pilgrim as part of our unit over Pilgrims.

We culminated the unit with an "authentic" feast including Indians (parents came dressed too, so I shouldn't feel too silly).

With the past two weeks learning about Pilgrims I have given a lot of thought over what they went through to gain religious freedom. It makes me grateful that I was born to a family that showed me Christ that showed me what true freedom in Him is. I just recently read in another blog article that we can't really be thankful FOR something without being thankful TO someone. I can't be thankful for anything else without grasping the reality of the cross and that without Christ paying for the debt of my sin I would nothing. I'm thankful for Grace!

I'm also thankful for so many other things:

  • My husband. I can't find the words to describe how I feel towards him. I love that we are better together than apart and that I can daily see a picture of how Christ loves the church.

  • God's provision. I'm so thankful that our daily needs are met and and even then some. We are blessed far more than we deserve.

  • Health. As I write this I'm hacking up a lung but yet I still have it good. I'm thankful that my father-in-law has survived cancer and the rest of our families are healthy.

  • Breaks from school. They are necessary. :)

  • School. It is a place that has high expectations and pushes me to be a better teacher even 8 years into my career. (although Raymond isn't thankful for the time it requires)

  • Davy. I realize that's slightly cheesy, but he is a good dog (he's good right now so I'm forgetting everything else) and he's great company when I'm home alone.

  • My family. I love that they are close and can't imagine life any other way.

  • So much more...

Second Anniversary

Ray was able to take a couple of days off and I had Friday off because of conferences. We decided to stick close to home for this anniversary but rather take a trip to OKC. After a delicious lunch at Mama Roja’s we drove downtown for a stay at the Skirvin Hotel. Waiting to check in, of course we had to stop at Bass Pro Shop. Ray wanted to teach me to shoot.

It didn’t go so well. (This picture was not planned but totally showed how I was feeling. I’m not a shooter!)
We got dinner to go to eat and hang out in our hotel room. I loved the Skirvin! Everything was so nice! We were in a corner room with 2 windows and the view was fun!
I think I need this chair in my bedroom.

Because we took a trip to OKC what would a tourist do, but go see the bombing memorial. It had been years since we had been.

We then went shopping at Penn Square and later took Davy to the lake. The weather was beautiful!

Our anniversary was on Tuesday and so we had plans to eat dinner at Charlestons. We ate there the night of our wedding too!

Raymond surprised me by taking me for dessert at The Melting Pot. MMmmmm!

What a sweet and simple time together. I loved it!
